Federer upset by Berdych in fourth round at Key Biscayne

Some fans in the packed stadium shouted encouragement at Roger Federer in Spanish, which is not one of the six languages he speaks.

One man hollered in English, "I love you, Roger!" Another barked, "Get it together."

An unhappy Federer commits 62 unforced errors in the loss. (US Presswire) Words failed to help. In a ragged performance that still produced plenty of drama Tuesday night, Federer lost to Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic in the fourth round of the Sony Ericsson Open, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (6).

"I fought as much as I could," Federer said. "My game has issues at the moment. I'm definitel...

Venus rolls into semis, bids for 4th Key Biscayne title

The woman with the best chance to beat Venus Williams at the Sony Ericsson Open watched Tuesday's quarterfinals from the photo pit.

Serena Williams had no camera but used her connections to secure a front-row seat as she watched sister Venus beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-3, 6-1.

Top-ranked Serena has been sidelined by a knee injury since winning the Australian Open in January. In her absence, Venus has become the woman to beat as she bids for her fourth Key Biscayne title and her first since 2001.

"When I'm executing and playing my best, it's great," Venus said. "It feels good, and I feel like I'm definitely dictating ...

Rochus upsets Djokovic in first round at Key Biscayne

Former champion Novak Djokovic lost his opening match at the Sony Ericsson Open to Olivier Rochus 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-4 Friday.

Djokovic won the tournament in 2007 and arrived at Key Biscayne with a 15-3 record this year. But he looked listless at times against Rochus, and by the third set fans were groaning as his errors mounted.

Ranked No. 2, Djokovic drew scattered jeers when he left the court. He responded with a thumbs-up signal.

Djokovic double-faulted 10 times and lost 30 of 44 second-serve points, including 13 of 17 in the final set. He committed 62 unforced errors and converted only ...

Henin eases into second round at Key Biscayne

Justine Henin advanced to the second round of the Sony Ericsson Open by beating Jill Craybas 6-2, 6-2 on Wednesday.

Henin double-faulted five times Wednesday and struggled with inconsistent groundstrokes. But she saved seven of eight break points while converting five of six.

The 33rd-ranked Henin, a former No. 1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion, is mounting a comeback this year after a 20-month retirement. She'll play fifth-seeded Elena Dementieva in the second round Friday.

"I realize it's gonna take a little bit of time to really be in the good rhythm and find myself again on the court, and I have to get used t...
