Maths mayhem at world tennis finals

It was a nailbiting situation at London's O2 Arena as three of the planet's top Tennis players were left clueless as to whether they had made it through to the semi-finals of the season-ending ATPWorld Tour Finals.

Two of them had qualified from Group A - Del Potro and Federer, as it turned out - with Murray edged out of the five-million-dollar tournament by the tightest of margins on an ATP statistics boffin's calculator.

"Anyone know what's going on? I think I'm audi (out) but the rules aren't worded too well," Murray wrote on his Twitter microblogging page.

Lewis bags brace as league leaders come alive in second half

AMELIA Lewis scored twice as Oxted scored all their goals in a superb second half display to remain top of the league.

Oxted had been frustrated in the first half but they looked like a different team after the break, when they really came alive.

Oxted suffered an early blow when a free hit was deflected on to the head of Penny Carolyn, who was forced off, leaving Oxted with only one substitute.

Forwards Lewis and Vicky Mackay fought hard for possession and opened up Wimbledon's defence several times but the final touch eluded Katie Barker.

Soderling stuns Djokovic to reach semis

Group B outsider Robin Soderling became the first player to reach the semifinals of the season-ending ATPWorld Tour Finals on Wednesday night.

The Swede shocked defending champion Novak Djokovic 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 in the afternoon match for his second successive win, and then was handed a place in the last four when Nikolay Davydenko upset world No. 2 Rafael Nadal 6-1 7-6 (7-4) in the evening.

Federer reclaims year-end No 1 ranking

London Swiss ace Roger Federer achieved yet another landmark when he finished as the ATPWorld Tour Champion for the fifth time following his win against Andy Murray at the Barclays ATPWorld Tour Finals late on Tuesday.

In doing so, Federer became just the second player in the history of the South African Airways ATP Rankings to regain the World No 1 ranking.

"Obviously, this was one of my big goals for the season," Federer admitted after successfully navigating a three-set 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 win in nearly two hours of action against Murray.
